36 YEARS OF BLUES
In 1988, Angel Forrest embarked on a musical journey that has spanned over three decades—and counting. Her debut album, Secondhand Blues, showcased a collection of timeless classics, immediately capturing the attention of critics and new fans alike. Her energetic vocal prowess and dynamic stage presence were further solidified with her tribute to the legendary Janis Joplin, culminating in the live album Angel Sings Janis Live, which brought her into the spotlight.
Angel’s first original album, Here For You, sold over 30,000 copies and set the stage for a string of successful releases. These included Wonderland, her festive Christmas album; the award-winning Come Alive; and Mother Tongue Blues, which earned her the Lys Blues Album of the Year in Québec and a nomination for Recording of the Year at the 2014 Maple Blues Awards. That same year, Angel also won the Songwriter of the Year award and recorded Live Love, an intimate live acoustic album.
In 2016, Angel unveiled Angel’s 11, a groundbreaking concept album featuring collaborations with 11 of Canada’s top guitarists. The album’s success garnered her multiple accolades, including Producer/Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year.
Her electrifying live album, Electric Love, achieved international chart success, cementing her reputation as a powerhouse in the blues, country, and rock genres. Between 2013 and 2021, Angel was named Female Vocalist of the Year an impressive seven times by the Toronto Blues Society. As a 2018 Memphis International Blues Challenge Finalist, she showcased her talent on a global stage.
In November 2019, Angel released the critically acclaimed Hell Bent with Grace, marking her bold entry into the American market. Continuing her creative momentum, 2022 saw the release of Angel’s 11 Vol. II, a follow-up that was widely praised and further solidified her standing as one of Canada’s most celebrated blues artists.
